Itching ears…

The other day while driving home from work, I felt the need to listen to this song on my iPod. To me it perfectly symbolizes the horrid state of the church in America. It describes the unfortunate state of a church fallen by the wayside where the pastors seem more concerned about church size and less about doctrinal substance. The congregants are unaware of what’s going on around them as they’re being blindly led through a broad gate and down a broad path which leads to destruction.

Most of our worship focuses much on what we can gain from the experience and not on giving glory to God Himself. We’ll concentrate heavily on using skilled musicians to lead worship when God looks through the facade straight to our heart. Nowadays we would rather use the chorus of a song to build an emotional experience and then when people raise their hands we’re falsely lead to believe that perhaps this is a movement of God? Little do we know that our gatherings are a stench to Him unless we bear a lifestyle that honors Him on a daily basis We have become thankless and selfish on our quest to elevate ourselves to Heaven, while sitting in our padded pews watching the millions of lost people around us crying for our help without lifting a finger. You can only wonder how much longer Christ will graciously give us the time to repent before He comes back to Earth!

Big Top: By Johnny Q Public

Painted expressions filling the stands
are the best at twisting animal balloons
and it’s so funny watching the magician
pulling big green rabbits out of little leather pouches

Under the Big Top there’s a tickle in my ear
It’s creepy, crawly, scary
I don’t feel fear

-CHORUS-
Under the Big Top
you’ve got a home
If they can fill the seats
and pay the loan

There went a donkey and an elephant
telling everyone about what is to come
and when the birdies sing, I am reminded
not everyone who cries “Lord, Lord” will enter the Kingdom

Under the Big Top there’s a tickle in my ear
It’s creepy, crawly, scary
I don’t feel fear

(repeat CHORUS)
Under the Big Top there’s a tickle in my ear
It’s creepy, crawly, scary
I don’t feel fear

blank expressions filling the pews
are the best at twisted animal views
and it’s so funny watching the minister
pulling big green rabbits out of little leather purses

*** 2 Tim. 4:2-4 [NKJ]

2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Matthew 7:21-23 [NKJ]

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
